Sweet but Fearless Podcast

Mar 28, 2022

This week we wanted to discuss something that many of our guests have touched on…..influence, and specifically as a front line manager, how you influence others, how you drive change, and what actions you can take to increase your influence.

Think about your leadership style and how you command influence.

Looking at the traditional definition of Influence, it’s the ability to affect the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. Hence, influence requires developing a strong emotional connection with yourself and others.

In this episode, we talk about the two types of influence: transactional and transformational, and how each has its place in leadership.

According to the Harvard Business Review’s article, “Strengthen Your Ability to Influence People,” Transactional leadership is a style that focuses on actual, actionable transactions between a leader and their subordinates. It focuses on improving an immediate situation by determining the steps that need to be taken in the short term.

Transformational leadership is a style where leaders encourage, inspire, and motivate employees to innovate and create change that will help grow and shape the future success of the company. This type of leadership sees the leader acting as a role model and motivator who offers vision, excitement, encouragement, morale boost, and satisfaction to the followers.

As you listen, think about how you influence others. Takes notes and reflect on what actions you can take today to accelerate your leadership influence.
